About Litchfield Park Today

Litchfield Park, Arizona is a beautiful family community with 4,890 (2006) residents’ located approximately 15 miles west of Phoenix. Nestled between Goodyear, Avondale and Glendale in the West Valley, Litchfield Park was recently recognized by the “Phoenix Magazine” as “the 8th best places to live in Arizona.”

About the History of Litchfield Park

The Litchfield Park community began in 1916 when Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company purchased 14,000 acres, 16 miles west of the city of Phoenix. The plan was to grow Egyptian long-staple cotton to use in tire cords. This project was headed by Paul Litchfield, a junior executive with Goodyear Tire from Akron, Ohio.

In 1926. the Litchfield Park community became the headquarters for Goodyear Farms and the company town was given Litchfield’s name. Litchfield Park and neighboring communities also were the test site for Goodyear auto, truck and tractor tires. And, though it was never completed, the plan was to develop Litchfield Park and several other neighbors into self-sufficient communities.
